About Me – Sophia Henry

I’m Sophia, a glass artist with a Master’s degree in Contemporary Glass Art and a BA in Architectural Arts and Stained Glass.

My passion for glass began in childhood and has only deepened over the years, leading me to explore both traditional and contemporary techniques in my work.
My art is deeply inspired by history, architecture, animals, and nature, each piece telling a unique story through the interplay of light, color, and form.

I push creative boundaries by blending traditional stained glass craftsmanship with innovative approaches and nonconventional materials. My work has been featured in CGS New Graduate Review 2022 and New Glass: Art & Architecture, showcasing my evolving artistic journey.

Being of Indigenous Taíno and Maroon heritage, my connection to nature is an intrinsic part of my identity and artistic vision. My ancestors' deep respect for the land, water, and wildlife influences the way I perceive and represent the natural world in my glasswork.

Through my art, I seek to honour these traditions, exploring the delicate balance between humanity and nature while raising awareness of conservation and cultural storytelling.
Beyond glass, I also create botanical-inspired jewellery that reflects my love for nature and intricate craftsmanship.

​Using fine materials like silver and pearls, I design pieces that capture the elegance of floral motifs and the organic beauty of the natural world. Whether through glass or jewellery, my goal is to craft meaningful works that evoke emotion, tell stories, and celebrate the connection between art, culture, and nature.

Past Exhibition

Fading Into Darkness
This exhibition explores the delicate harmony between art and nature, using phosphorescent lights and solarium lighting to create glowing stained glass artworks reminiscent of a glow worm-filled cave. As the light fades, the sculptures radiate a soft, shifting glow, much like the ethereal Aurora Borealis. The fleeting beauty of the light symbolizes the fragile state of nature, urging us to conserve and protect it. Through innovative methods, the artwork creates a space where nature can thrive, demonstrating that art can coexist with the natural world rather than contribute to its destruction.
